New packaging for Settlers of Catan

Published: January 16, 2015

Kosmos and Mayfair Games announced on Jan. 15, 2015, a consolidation of the Catan family of products with a new look for the packaging. The cover art utilized by all partners is aimed at visual continuity worldwide.

The original game and its spinoffs have sold more than 22 million copies and are translated into 30 languages. The base game will be called “Catan” in all countries and languages, with standardization of the graphic design throughout.

Catan’s creator, Klaus Teuber, says, “By means of this change, we will continue to grow global demand and modernize [our] family of games.”

Catan plans to visit India for the 2,700-kilometer (1,678-mile) Rickshaw Run from Jaisalmer to Shillong, a charity event benefitting Birmingham (England) Children’s Hospital and the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation. During the “race,” players will be given the opportunity to play Catan and Mayfair Games. Catan GmbH and Kosmos will teach the game as they help raise money for the cause.
