What types of special promotions, displays or events are you doing to help promote sales during the holiday season?

Chris Bercaw of Phil's Hobby, Defiance, Ohio, said:
“One promotion I will be doing is the ‘12 Days Before Christmas’ sale. It has been a big hit the last four years. Each day something different it on sale. In those 12 days, the whole store will have been on sale, depending how you interpret the ‘deal of the day.’ The ‘deal of the day’ is posted on the front door, but will not be told over the phone, email, website or social media. We will also have a 3-hour make-and-take for the youth that come to see Santa arrive in town. Parents can look around the store and make purchases while their children make items. Demos really help sell items during the Christmas season. Even though we demo items year-round parents, grandparents and those new to the hobby seem to impulse buy items after they've seen the demo.”

Richard Brooks, Recreational Conflict, Owensboro, Ky., said:
“20- to 80-percent discounts on most tools and accessories, plus an extra 10 percent on in-store sales.”

Tony Waterman, HobbyTown USA, West Allis, Wis., replied:
“We are running more events, such as in-store gaming and multiple types of racing, to get more crowds in.”

Chuck Freeze, Chuck's Trains LLC, Landis, N.C., responded:

“This is the first year that we are offering a holiday tune-up special on O-scale engines. Cleaned, serviced and ready for the holidays for those customers who only use a train once a year.”

Scott Thorne, Castle Perilous Games, Carbondale, Ill., said:
“We will kick off the holiday season with an early opening the day after Thanksgiving with special discounts and a percentage given to the local Humane Society. We will offer free gift bags and participate in the downtown Cookie Walk with cookies and hot cider in early December.”

Ron Smith, R/C Plus Hobbies, Salem, Ore., said:
“We have an indoor carpet track that we race on both onroad and offroad!”

Roy Ballard, Loose Caboose Hobbies, Napa, Calif., had this to say:
“Promotions: We'll be doing local advertising. Displays: Lots of products. Events: We'll be open seven days a week because people never understand why we're closed, even if it's only one day a week!”
