Model aircraft club banned from flying

Published: December 22, 2016

Members of the Farview R/C Flyers Club in Perry Township, Pa., have been banned from flying their aircraft in the area for the foreseeable future.

The land over which the aircraft were flown had been used by model plane hobbyists since the 1960s. However, late last year the Perry Township Zoning Hearing Board banned owners Jeffrey and Carol Grim from renting out their land to model airplane clubs.

Farmers who own land adjacent to the Grimes’ property say that the aircraft pose a threat to themselves and their livestock.

Club members disagree, saying that the aircraft are more likely to hurt the pilots than distant bystanders.
As of now, the club is looking for other locations to fly their model planes.
