Horizon Hobby LLC continues to expand its global reach.

The company announced July 1 that it has acquired Gustav Staufenbiel GmbH, an R/C retailer and manufacturer best known for its proprietary brands Staufenbiel and Dymond. The move was made through Horizon’s German subsidiary, Horizon Hobby GmbH.

“Ever since we established Horizon Hobby GmbH in 2008, Staufenbiel has been one of our strongest partners,” Horizon CEO Joe Ambrose said. “Their support of our proprietary brands and excellent customer service has helped us make significant inroads in the European market.”

For the near future, Gustav Staufenbiel will remain an independent company, Horizon said. Gustav Staufenbiel’s 21 employees will continue to work from the company’s headquarters in Barsbuttel, Germany. Gustav Staufenbiel’s former owner will stay on as a consultant to Horizon.

“Adding Staufenbiel is not going to change the business model of Staufenbiel or Horizon Hobby GmbH,” Ambrose said. “Both companies will continue to develop the market with our partners as we always have.”
