AAA Hobbies & Crafts and Mega Hobby pool their staffs together to organize Hobbyfest, held June 21 in Barrington, N.J.

Two New Jersey–based retailers hosted the first annual Hobbyfest event June 21 in Barrington, N.J.

AAA Hobbies & Crafts, owned by Michael Bass, and Mega Hobby, owned by his son, Alan, sponsored the event. Michael Bass is also the president of hobby distributor Stevens International.

“For a long time we had wanted to create an event that would attract families to hobbies, and with careful planning and the support of the retailers involved, Hobbyfest was a great success,” Alan Bass said.

The event attracted about 200 attendees and about 75–100 kids, he said. The kids built models, played with radio-controlled cars and launched rockets.

“Demand for these products is strong,” Bass said. “We just need to dig deep and come up with innovative ideas in order to continue to reach our target markets.”
