HMA elects council members

The Hobby Manufacturers Association recent elected two new members and 10 returning members to its various division councils. The three-year terms began July 1.

Marta Renna, George Mann and Kristin Schiro were elected to the HMA General Hobby Division council. Lewis Nace, Don Banes, Richard Poulsen, Ed Sexton, David L. Veres and Peter Vetri were elected to the HMA Plastics & Die Cast Division council. And Jack Burnside, Steve Hall and Rob Kurek were elected to the HMA Radio Control Division council.

Renna, of California Hobby Distributors, is serving her second term on the General Hobby Division council. She also serves on the HMA Marketing & Promotion Committee. Renna has worked for California Hobby Distributors for more than 40 years. She has managed the company since 2004.

Mann, co-owner of Canadian hobby distributors Browns Finishing Supplies, is serving his second term on the General Hobby Division council. Before launching Browns in 2010, Mann worked for years in sales at Hobbycraft of Canada.

Schiro, director of sales and marketing at The Testor Corporation since 2009, is serving her second term on the General Hobby Division council. She previous worked Home Products International, ACCO/General Binding Corporation, iCastle and Newell-Rubbermaid.

Nace, vice president of sales and marketing for Minicraft Models, is serving his third term on the Plastics & Die Cast Division council and is currently the council’s president. As a 40-year member of the hobby industry, he previously served on the International Model-Hobby Manufacturers Association board and on the HMA Board of directors.

Banes, product development manager for Stevens International, is serving his third term on the Plastics & Die Cast Division council. He also serves on the HMA Show Committee. Banes has been in the hobby industry for 20 years.

Poulsen, who has worked at MMD-Squadron since 2008, is serving his second term on the Plastics & Die Cast Division council. He previously worked as a sales representative for Tamiya America Inc.

Sexton, vice president of product development at Revell-Monogram, is serving his second term on the Plastics & Die Cast Division council. He has worked in the hobby industry for more than 30 years.

Veres, owner of David L. Veres Company, is serving his second term on the Plastics & Die Cast Division council. His company provides hobby-industry clients with advertising counsel, public relations, package design, market research and more.

Vetri, co-owner of Atlantis Toy and Hobby, is serving his first term on the Plastics & Die Cast Division council. He previously owned and operated Megahobby.com, an online hobby retailer.

Burnside, owner of Empire Hobby, is serving his second term on the Radio Control Division council. He is a longtime iHobby Expo exhibitor and has also cooridinated the event’s flying cage for several years.

Hall, vice president of Horizon Hobby since 2001, is serving his first term on the Radio Control Division council. He previously worked in the telecommunications business for 17 years.

Kurek, director of publications for the Academy of Model Aeronautics, is serving his second term on the Radio Control Division council. He has been with the AMA since 1992 and helped relocate the organization from Reston, Va., to Muncie, Ind.
