Wm. K. Walthers Inc. announced June 17 the appointment of Terry Thompson as its new vice president of proprietary products.

“It gives me great pleasure that Terry Thompson will pick up where Michael Stephens left off in moving the Walthers brands to pre-eminence in the model railroading world,” President Phil Walthers said in a press release.

Thompson previously worked for Kalmbach Publishing Co. where he served as publisher of six Kalmbach titles, including Model Railroader and Model Railroader Video Plus. He is also a past president of the Model Railroad Industry Division of the Hobby Manufacturer’s Association.

“This is a great opportunity, and one that I really appreciate,” Thompson said. “I’m going from a company with a history of quality and integrity to one with an equally sterling history of quality and integrity. Together, the two firms have a total of 160 years of service to the model railroad hobby, and I’m honored to be able to be part of both traditions.

“I’ve appreciated all the opportunities that I’ve had at KPC and, yes, it will be hard to walk away from the many friends I’ve made here. However, I’m leaving the magazines in capable hands and joining a terrific organization filled with quality people.”

In his new role at Walthers, Thompson will provide strategic direction for the company’s proprietary brands and marketing teams in the areas of product selection and development, inventory management, and promotions.
