Horizon Hobby's Vaterra Twin Hammers 1:10-Scale 4WD Rock Racer
Horizon Hobby announced Jan. 30 its new R/C brand Vaterra, accompanied by the tag line “Adventure Driven.” The new product line includes 4-wheel-drive rock racers, rallycross racers, licensed reproductions of exotic sports coupes and American muscle cars.
Seven Vaterra vehicles are scheduled to arrive in the spring, and four of the vehicles are available now: the Twin Hammers 1:10-scale 4WD Rock Racer, the Glamis Uno 1:8-scale 2WD Buggy, the Kalahari 1:14-scale 4WD Desert Raider and the Kemora 1:14-scale 4WD Rallycross Car.
Horizon has billed the Vaterra line as a more authentic driving experience. Each ready-to-run vehicle is engineered and equipped to be driven in a similar environment as its full-scale inspiration, according to a Horizon press release. The vehicles each feature waterproof electronics and, for some of the off-road products, chassis dust covers and sealed drivetrains.
The names of several of the vehicles are also symbolic. Twin Hammers refers to a pair of off-road trails in California’s Johnson Valley; Glamis is a remote corner of southern California’s sand dunes visited by off-road extremists; Kalahari alludes to the desert rally raid; and Kemora is a 1.7-mile serpentine rallycross track outside of Vetili, Finland.
Other Vaterra products that will be released in the spring include a 2012 Camaro ZL1 Officially Licensed 1:10-scale Car, a 1969 Camaro RS Officially Licensed 1:10-scale Car and a 2012 Nissan GT-R Officially Licensed 1:10-scale Car.
