In an effort to preserve “the long-term success of both the PIKO brand and our retailers,” model railroad manufacturer PIKO America is instituting a minimum advertised price policy.
According to a release from the PIKO Product & Sales Manager Jonathan Meador, the Unilateral Minimum Advertised Price (UMAP) policy will go into effect Sept. 1. The key language in the policy: on “PIKO G-scale items, the UMAP is 20% off the current MSRP. For PIKO HO/N/TT-Scale items, the UMAP is 25% off the current MSRP.”
The UMAP applies to “any published price, whether in printed advertisements or flyers, on the internet, websites, online auctions or any other means of distributing price information to the public.”
Meador said, “Our products are priced pretty much for what we think they should sell for. We work really hard to keep the price down.”
More important language: “Retailers are under no obligation to follow this policy, but are advised that we will not knowingly sell to retailers who violate this policy.”
