Slixx Decals to stay in business

Model decal manufacturer Slixx Decals announced May 3 on its website and in an email to its customers that it will stay open for business.

Slixx owners Gene and Becky Sisemore had originally told Model Retailer in February that they planned to sell off their existing inventory and stop production after nearly 20 years in the industry.

The decision to stay in business came after the Sisemores met with their attorney and a business consultant in recent months, Becky said. The Sisemores had considered selling the brand, but their attorney informed them that the artwork and licensing were nontransferable; only the brand name Slixx would have lived on.

A few of companies interested in purchasing Slixx had no intentions of continuing to produce high-end decals under the Slixx name, Becky said.

“To give up the name would have been tough if it wouldn’t have been followed through the same way that we’ve tried to keep up the name,” she said.

Slixx has also seen a recent uptick in sales following its February closing announcement. “In two months our sales were more than they were in 2011, and we didn’t come out with anything new,” Becky said.

The Sisemores decided to put that money back into the business, she said.

Slixx will now operate as more of a mail-order business, Becky said, and will focus on future releases instead of reproducing discontinued items.

“There will be changes, and we’re not really sure how this will all play out,” she said. “But we’re going to do our best to keep producing quality decals and stay in the hobby.”
