Round 2 to release Legends of the Quarter Mile collection

Published: March 22, 2012
To honor funny car racers of the ’60s and ’70s, Round 2 LLC announced on March 21 the release of a new drag racing memorabilia line called Legends of the Quarter Mile.

The vintage car collection will include 1:25-scale plastic model kits, 1:64-scale slot cars and 1:18-scale die-cast replicas.

“Cars like this are what drag racing stands for,” said Jim Dunn, NHRA Hall of Fame member and former funny car driver, in a press release from Round 2.

The model kits will come from MPC, Polar Lights and AMT. The series kicks off in September with Arnie Beswick’s 1969 “The Super Judge” GTO Funny Car. Future kits will be announced soon.

Auto World is creating the Legends slot cars along with a drag strip track set.

The die-cast line also comes from Auto World, which will debut four cars in 2012 and another six to 10 next year.

“Everything about these cars looks fantastic,” Round 2 President Tom Lowe said in a release. “We’re the first one to do it in this level of detail.

“This era of drag racing was the start of all the excitement and noise, and we’re proud to be a part of it in our own way.”
