Model railroad manufacturer Piko reports record sales

Model railroad manufacturer Piko experienced a record sales year in 2011, according to the German website MDR Thüringen. The company, based in Sonneberg, Germany, reported sales of 10,000 euros ($13 million).

Good export business and the re-entry into N-scale models were cited as reasons for the best sales in the company’s 19 years. Sales of trains and accessiories were especially good in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the U.S. The company has announced almost 300 new products for 2012 and expects a sales increase of 10%.

Piko has about 500 workers in plants located in in southern China, Germany and the U.S.
