Hobby Town founder dies

Charles "Chick" Bartlett, founder of Hobby Town, a Lincoln, Neb., hobby store his successors turned into the national franchise HobbyTown USA, died Jan. 2 in Laguna Woods, Calif.

Bartlett opened Lincoln Hobby Supply in 1946 and Hobby Town in 1958. He retired in 1980 and sold the business to Thom Walla and Merl and Mary Hayes. They began franchising the store in 1985; there are now 154 stores in 40 states. — Lincoln, Neb.
