When it comes to the military aviation hobby, radio controlled planes often take the foreground. But Gerald “Hawkeye” Voigt, owner of Hawkeye Hobbies LLC, didn’t want hobbyists to forget about plastic scale models.
“I believe scale modeling is tied into aviation just as much as R/C,” he said.
Matt Jolley, owner of Warbird Radio, agreed. So much so that he gave Voigt — a hobbyist and manufacturer of model paint — his own show, “The Plastic Scale Modeling Hour,” which debuted Nov. 21 on WarbirdRadio.com, an online radio station devoted to military aviation.
“We’re already getting a lot of interest from different aspects of the industry,” Voigt said, “not just modelers.”
He said the show will be open to any discussion related to plastic scale models and many guests have already been lined up. Listeners are also welcome to call or email the show, or chat with the host via the show’s website or Facebook page, Voigt said.
One of his main goals is for the show to help dispel rumors propagated by modeling forums. “I want to bust any of the myths and misinformation out there,” Voigt said.
After its two initial shows in November, The Scale Modeling Hour moved to its permanent time slot on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. EST. LISTEN HERE
