Obituary: John Parker

Published: October 31, 2011
John Parker, founder of model railroad manufacturer San Juan Car Co., died October 20, 2011. He founded SJCC in 1987 to produce detailed O-scale standard and narrow-gauge freight car kits. His first experience with manufacturing came early in life when he ran parts as a teenager for Grandt Line's Cliff Grandt at a time when the use of injection-molded styrene for model train parts was in its infancy. Parker created much of the tooling for SJCC's products.

SJCC is based in Durango, Colo., home to some of what remains of U.S. narrow-gauge steam.
