Moebius Models hires new creative director
April 21, 2011
Industry veteran Bob Plant has joined Moebius Models as its new creative director. Plant will oversee instruction sheet and packaging design, and will help steer the company's product development. While currently focused on model kits, he says Moebius is looking at broadening its reach.
"There is a lot of potential in the properties that Moebius has invested in; leveraging those licenses and exploring other product opportunities makes perfect sense, and is something I am very excited to be a part of," Plant said.
A part of the hobby industry since 1998, Plant got his start with Playing Mantis, helping design and develop the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer holiday line. He began his most recent gig with Round 2 in 2006, where he continued work on Rudolph, but also was part of the development team for the Peanuts and Star Trek licenses and other genre kits under the Polar Lights badge.
"The highlight of my work on the Round 2 model kits was the reissue of the original vintage Batmobile kit," Plant said. "The fact that we were able to utilize the original tooling from the 1960s was the icing on the cake."
Frank Winspur, owner of Moebius Models, says that Plant's experience at Playing Mantis and Round 2 makes him a valuable addition to the Moebius team.
"There are a few things that we needed improvement on, and Bob will be the person to get us there," Winspur said. "With new additions to our line coming in 2012, Bob will have the opportunity to work on projects outside of plastic kits."
