Alliance Open House a success

This year's Alliance Open House, which took place October 8-9 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, welcomed over 220 retail attendees representing 130 stores throughout the country to one of the game industry's longest-running trade events.

Sponsors of this year's event included Mayfair Games, Bastion Studios, Closet Nerd Games, Glowfly Games, Posthuman Studios, Wildfire Games, Wizards of the Coast, WizKids/NECA, Cryptozoic Entertainment, the Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA), Days of Wonder, and Queen Games.

Attendees heard marketing, sales, and business seminars by industry experts, and got the latest product and promotion news directly from major game company representatives. They spent much of the day exploring the exhibit hall's 50 booths, representing product lines from over 70 companies. Exhibitors demonstrated their games, revealed upcoming release plans, and handed out plenty of promotional goodies to support sales at local stores.

Each year, Alliance organizes a charity auction to benefit three non-profit organizations. This year's auction raised $3,681, beating the total from the Chicago Retailer Summit. Highlights of the charity auction included a Custom John Kovalic bookmark for Munchkin which generated a $1000 charity donation from Jester's Playhouse, a Magic: The Gathering (MTG) 2011 Japanese Rare uncut sheet, a limited edition Larry Elmore print, "Castle of Deception", and a MTG Worldwake Intro Pack Rare uncut sheet. All told, exhibitors generously donated 40 valuable prizes for the silent auction.
