Thoughts that the worldwide economy might be improving are bolstered by slight increases in attendance at the world’s two biggest toy shows.

Organizers of the Spielwarenmesse International Toy Fair Feb. 4-9 in Nuremberg, Germany reported total trade attendance of 76,600, about 1,200 more visitors than in 2009. Exhibitors numbered 2,625.

The American International Toy Fair Feb. 14-17 in New York run by the Toy Industry Association reported more than 10,600 buyers attended the show, an increase of 3% over last year. The number of retail outlets represented at the show also increased 2% from 2009 to 5,774. Total attendance, including buyers, retailers, trade guests, media and exhibitors rose 4% to 25,030.

Dates for the shows in 2011: Nuremberg, Feb. 3-8; New York, Feb. 13-16.
