Independent stores see a benefit by stressing service, community

Reliable industry sources estimate that about 200 hobby retailers closed or changed the focus of their business in 2012. This has been a familiar refrain in the hobby industry for years, and it has become particularly acute with the Internet retail boom. As daunting as the challenges appear for independent, brick-and-mortar hobby stores, they are not insurmountable. In fact, by teaming with other independent businesses in your area, you can not only strengthen your store, but also the businesses you partner with, and help build up your local economy.
