A real-life health insurance check.

Like most of us, when the economy took a downturn, I looked for ways to cut costs. One place I looked was the cost of health insurance. Being self-employed with a wife and four children, we took a hard look at what we could afford.

After tremendous research, we decided a high-deductible plan with a tax deductible Health Savings Account (HSA) was the most viable option. After three years on this plan (and an expensive trip to the emergency room), did we actually save any money?
