Eagle Tree's MicroPower big on data
Product: MicroPower E-Logger
Maker: Eagle Tree Systems
Stock No.: With integrated connectors, MicroPower01; with wires, MicroPower02
MSRP: $69.99

Product: Eagle Tree Systems, manufacturer of telemetry systems for radio-control aircraft, planes and boats, has released the MicroPower E-Logger. This diminutive data recorder stores information about battery status, motor RPMs and temperature during a vehicle's run and allows the user to download the information via a supplied USB cable onto a computer for analysis.

The unit is a slimmed down version of the company's car, boat and flight data recorder products. Its included Windows Virtual Dashboard software lets the user customize what parameters to record and display with gauges and numerical readouts as well as graphs. There's a live mode setting on the Virtual Dashboard allowing the information to be seen in real time when the vehicle is connected to a computer on a workbench or in the field.

The MicroPower comes equipped with either Dean's connectors or wires to simplify installation into a variety of vehicles. Accessory sensors are available for measuring temperature (loop, Stock No. 10, $9.99; micro, microtemp, $9.99) and RPM (Hall Effect, 08, $9.99; optical, optical-mpower, $14.99).

Wartime aces dogfight in Carousel 1 die-cast
Products: Werner Schroer's ME109E, Clive Caldwell's Curtiss Tomahawk IIB
    Maker: Carousel 1
    Scale: 1:48
    Stock No.: 7102 (ME109E), 6103 (Tomahawk IIB)
    MSRP: $69.95 each

Product: Carousel 1 is offering a pair of unique 1:48 scale World War II fighter aircraft, flown by two famous pilots in the North African theater. The planes, each sold separately, represent the aircraft used in a confrontation between German ace Werner Schroer (114 kills) and British ace Clive Caldwell (28 kills) over Tobruk on June 26, 1941.

The Carousel 1 die-cast models are of Schroer's Messerschmitt Bf109 E and Caldwell's Curtiss Tomahawk IIB. In the historic dogfight between the two pilots, Schroer's nimble Bf109 E was able to outmaneuver Caldwell's heavier Tomahawk, crippling the aircraft. Though the British ace's plane was badly damaged, even set on fire at one point, the Tomahawks had a reputation for being able to take a lot of punishment, and Caldwell managed to slip away from Schroer and get his plane back to base, thus robbing Schroer's kill tally by one.
