The FAA’s new UAS group, the Unmanned Aircraft Safety Team (UAST) held its first meeting Oct. 18-19 in Washington, D.C.

The team was announced Aug. 2 at White House Drone Day as an advisory committee for UAS safety. The group is comprised of stakeholders from the drone and aviation industries, as well as the government.

According to the FAA, the UAST will use a data-driven, consensus-based approach to analyze safety data and develop specific interventions that will mitigate the root causes of accidents.
