Horst Preiser, 82, dies

Published: October 31, 2016
Horst Preiser, who oversaw the growth of the model-figure company Paul M. Preiser GmbH in the 1970s and '80s, died Aug. 8 in Germany. He was 82.

He worked for the company started by his father as a young man, eventually opening up new markets for Presier's vast figure line and other products. A passionate modeler himself, Preiser sketched thousands of figures and worked with sculptors and toolmakers to produce them. Many of the figures that now inhabit model railroaders' layouts started as ideas for populating his dioramas.

Preiser's sons, Volker and Jürgen, have been part of the operation since 1990 and continue to run the company that produces figures, vehicles and architectural models.
