Kalmbach publishes adult activity books

Published: July 22, 2016
Kalmbach Publishing Co. is jumping into the adult activity book business this fall with four releases—three coloring books and one dot-to-dot book. More are planned for the coming year.

“Everyone knows coloring books are hot, and we wanted to bring our own unique take on it to those looking for a fun creative outlet,” said Dianne Wheeler, editor of Kalmbach Books. “With the dot-to-dot, we’re reaching for an audience that might want a different way to engage their brains and unplug.”

The first is the initial coloring book in a planned series called Other Worlds: Icons of Fantasy. The book, titled Epic Journeys, features 24 original works from four illustrators who specialize in fantasy and board- game art—Jeff Easley, Larry Elmore, Dana Knutson and Mark A. Nelson. The book offers each illustrator’s take on the theme in a variety of settings. MSRP is $14.99.

The remaining three are part of the Premium Collection. Musical Instruments by illustrator Lisa Larsen features instruments in ornate settings. Finding Your Motivation by Shona Brooks has hidden inspirational messages in each illustration that are revealed as the page is colored. Each book contains 30 designs of varying degrees of intricacy.

Cruisin’ Route 66 is the theme of the dot-to-dot book by Adam Turner. Each page contains more than 500 dots that, when connected, reveal iconic scenery and locations along the famous road-trip highway like the Red Oak Diner and a vintage Standard Oil station.

All are printed on heavy-weight artist paper to prevent bleed-through and are perforated for easy removal. The MSRP for Musical Instruments, Finding Your Motivation and Cruisin’ Route 66 is $12.99. The books will be available in October.
