HobbyTown is teaming up with AMain Performance Hobbies

Published: April 28, 2016
HobbyTown, the franchisor of the largest chain of independently owned and operated retail hobby stores in the U.S., is pairing with AMain Performance Sports & Hobbies, which specializes in radio-controlled products and is one of the top ecommerce companies in the hobby retail industry. With this partnership, HobbyTown hopes to expand its website and grow its online sales while AMain increases its brick-and-mortar presence by franchising stores under the AMain name.

HobbyTown president, Bob Wilke, said this partnership came about when he called AMain to get advice on growing HobbyTown's online appearance. "Through that conversation we realized we had a really good partnership opportunity," said Wilke.

Because AMain only brick-and-mortar presence is in Chico, Calif., it will benefit from HobbyTown's extensive franchising structure. At the same time, HobbyTown will hopefully profit from AMains experience in online sales, ecommerce fulfillment and merchandising. The two companies will be working together on product development.

"Over the past several years, it has become increasingly clear that the relationship between online retail and brick-and-mortar must become better aligned to serve the hobby customer and to increase the overall health of the hobby industry," said AMain CEO Kendall Bennett in a news release. "A partnership between HobbyTown and AMain provides an amazing opportunity to accomplish these goals.”
