Model aviation community donates $92,000 to Wounded Warrior Project

Published: January 22, 2016
The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) has donated $92,000 to support Wounded Warrior Project. These funds were raised through approximately 235 AMA chartered clubs during National Model Aviation Day held on Aug. 15, 2015.

An oversize check was presented to Warrior Speak representative Keven Shaeffer during AMA Expo, on Jan. 9 in Ontario, Calif.

National Model Aviation Day was established in 2013 to celebrate the history, hobby and sport of model aviation. Since then, AMA clubs have contributed a total of $268,000 to Wounded Warrior Project.

“The continued success of National Model Aviation Day has been very impressive,” said Bob Brown, AMA President and AMA Foundation Board member. “AMA is proud to support Wounded Warrior Project and other charities through this event. Our clubs worked hard to promote the hobby and to make this possible.”

AMA clubs were asked to conduct public events with an emphasis on model aviation education, community support and fellowship. More than 230 AMA clubs across the U.S. held events and fundraisers and invited their local neighborhoods to learn about the hobby.

Several organizations helped the AMA Foundation celebrate National Model Aviation Day. Those sponsors include: HobbyKing, Hobbico, Horizon Hobby, Ready Made RC, Hostetler’s Plans, Volaré Products, Tower Hobbies, and RCGroups.com.

This year’s National Model Aviation Day will be celebrated on Aug. 13, 2016. For more information, visit nationalmodelaviationday.org.
