Star Wars toy sales to reach $2 billion

Published: November 18, 2015
Roughly $2 billion worth of Star Wars toys will be sold by the end of 2015, according to Oppenheimer & Co., as reported in The Wall Street Journal.

Retailers have been analyzing data since May 4, also known as Force Friday, the promotional day when The Walt Disney Co. coordinated a global reveal of its first Star Wars merchandise.

According to the NPD Group, a market research company, toy industry sales are up 8 percent through the first three quarters of 2015. However, properties such as The Peanuts and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are seeing reduced space in retail because more resources are being directed toward Star Wars.
