Comic sales present a mixed picture

Sales of comics and graphic novels fell 9.55 percent in October, according to the media site ICv2, following a 2.98 percent decline in the third quarter. Compared to a year ago, sales of comic books and graphic novels are down 7.49 percent and 14.27 percent, respectively.

Year-to-date figures remain strong, however, with overall sales up 5.08 percent compared to the first 10 months of 2014. Comic books are up 5.37 percent, while graphic novels are up 4.45 percent.

Marvel Comics continues to dominate the market with a 43 percent share, about twice that of rival DC Comics. Marvel was helped in October with All-New All Different, a new branding of its entire line of comics.
