Hobby Show Promotions Inc., producer of the 2013 and 2014 iHobby Expo, will be under new ownership effective Oct. 15.

The company, currently owned by Randy Bachmann, is being sold to David Swanson, who has been involved in the consumer promotion of iHobby Expo since 2006. Hobby Show Promotions has a show management contract with the Hobby Manufacturers Association for another three years.

iHobby Expo is the largest trade and consumer show for the hobby industry. Swanson said, “It is clear to me that while iHobby Expo has potential and has always been a well-attended consumer show, the time has come to examine all options to improve the show.” Both Swanson and Bachmann said the show’s business model needs revamping, and Swanson added he will be examining the results of this year’s show, as well as potential venues, time of year, and focus for future events. “In concert with the HMA, we will create a show that meets the needs of the hobby industry today and into the future,” Swanson said.

Bachmann says he is going to put his efforts into Train Show Inc., which sponsors The Great Midwest Train Show, Greenberg’s Train and Toy Show, and The World’s Greatest Hobby on Tour shows. The company has recently acquired the assets of the Great Train Expo shows.
