First impression: Every serious slot car racer needs a good GT, and this Ford GT40 Le Mans 1968 fits the bill.

The No. 8 car, driven to victory in 1968 by Jean Blaton “Beurlys” and Willy Mairesse, performed admirably straight out of the box — not surprising for a car. But with the addition of silicone tires and a small magnet, this Ford GT40 instantly became one of my more race-worthy rides.

The slot car does appear to have a few minor design discrepancies, but on the whole the yellow Shell livery is quite attractive. And GT40s, with their low profiles, always look impressive.

Why you should stock it: The Ford GT40 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four straight years from 1966–1969, with this version, the Mk I, winning the final two. That’s reason enough for your customers to purchase this car.

The price is not as affordable as some other GTs, but as has demonstrated before, you get what you pay for.
