Hobbico Inc. in one shot bulked up its off-road radio-control offerings, announcing the acquisition of R/C car producers Axial, Team Durango and ARRMA. The move gives Hobbico the ability to compete at most price levels in this segment of the R/C market.

Axial will continue to operate from its facility in Irvine, Calif. Team Durango and ARRMA will also operate from their current United Kingdom offices. All three are now Hobbico subsidiaries. Their product lines will continue to be available through a worldwide network of distributors.

Founded in 2005, Axial specializes in rock-crawling and rock-racing products. Much of its line features scale detail and is ready to run. Team Durango, established in 2009, produces higher-end racing buggies and trucks in 1:10 and 1:8 scale.

The newcomer is ARRMA, founded in 2011. Its offerings include buggies and trucks with advanced features, unique designs and parts compatibility. Using a common chassis platform, ARRMA vehicles allow consumer choice while allowing dealers to maintain a simplified parts inventory.

The acquisition also includes the dBoots brand of off-road R/C tires for multi-surface indoor and outdoor tracks.

“We’re proud to bring these strong product lines into the Hobbico family,” Hobbico President Wayne Hemming said. “I’m particularly happy to welcome the teams of talented professionals at Axial, Team Durango and ARRMA and look forward to the innovative products that they are developing.”
